Description
The building at 2 and 4 East Street is a house, now serving as a bank and office. It dates from the 18th century, with additions and alterations in the early 19th and 20th centuries. The exterior is rendered in stucco, with brickwork visible at the rear, and has a tile roof. The building is two storeys and an attic, with four windows on the upper floor. The roof has a substantial tile covering, hipped at the west end, and displays moulded and coved plaster eaves at the rear and end, suggesting a forward extension and a raising of the structure in the early 19th century. The north-facing front has a projecting moulded eaves cornice with a frieze, a first-floor band (broken by the window openings), and a plinth. The upper windows are sash windows, including one double-hung window. The arrangement of bays is 2 x 2-storeyed and a ground-floor bay. Dormers have been added in the 20th century. The entrances have modern classical doorframes, one to the front of number 4 and one at the end of number 2. The interior has been extensively modernised.
