Description
There are 14 tomb chests in the churchyard of St John the Baptist, arranged in groups of 3, 3, and 8 to the northeast and south of the church. These tomb chests date from the late 18th century to the early 19th century, with eleven of them specifically dating between 1790 and 1820. They are made of white smooth stone, likely Portland stone, and feature a finely-weathered top slab with moulded edges. The corners are recessed with vertical flutes, and the sides have recessed panels, often paired on the long side. Each tomb chest also has a moulded top on the plinth.
