Description
The Horse and Groom is a coaching inn that dates from the 17th century, with later alterations in the 18th, early 19th, and 20th centuries. The building is roughcast with mock half-timbering and features a tiled roof. It has two storeys and four upper windows. The upper part of the building displays exposed half-timbering, while the first floor has four early 19th-century sash windows. The ground floor includes three angular bays with cornices and sash windows. A former carriage entrance has been filled with panels and double doors, framed by a Tuscan surround, and features a bow-shaped wrought-iron grill with a central ornamental bracket above. On the south side, between two bays, there is a Tuscan pilastered doorcase with a six-panelled door. Inside, there are remnants of the original timber framing, along with many 20th-century additions.
