Description
No 1 Market Place is a shop and house built in the early 18th century, with some alterations from the 19th century. The building is constructed of brick with stucco dressings and has a pantiled roof featuring a raised stone coped gable on the left and a tile coped gable on the right, along with two brick gable stacks.
The front of the building is three storeys high and consists of three bays. The second floor has a stucco band, and the central entrance is a glazed door with a plain overlight, flanked by single rectangular bays that each contain three 19th-century windows. Above the door and bays is a moulded entablature supported by scrolly brackets on the frieze.
On the first floor, there is a central blank opening with plain sashes on either side, while the second floor features a smaller central blank opening flanked by plain sashes. All the openings are topped with plain splayed stucco lintels. Additionally, there is an original 18th-century lead downpipe and hopper located on the right side of the facade.
