Description

The pump, built in 1897, is made of painted cast iron and stands on a stone plinth with two steps leading up to it. It was created by W. Macfarlane & Co of Glasgow, known for their decorative ironwork in the late 19th century. The structure features a square block with an integral fluted plinth topped by a lion holding a shield. The shield is inscribed with the words, "To commemorate the 60th year of the reign of H.M. Queen Victoria. From her loyal subjects of Caistor 20th June 1897." Below this is a Greek key fret and a royal coat of arms, with a spigot from which water flows into a semi-circular trough beneath. To the right, there is a delicate curving pump handle. This pump is included for its group value only.
