Description
A house and shop, originally a single property now divided into two, dates to the early 18th century, with later alterations in the late 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of brick, with some areas painted, and has a pantile roof. The right-hand side of the roof features a raised, tumbled gable with a slight kneeler. The facade is three bays wide and two stories high, with three doorways. The left-hand door dates to the early 19th century and features moulded panels with semicircular heads. To the right is an early 19th-century oriel bay window with three lights, incorporating Moorish arches with delicate pierced carving in the spandrels. A deeply moulded and bracketed cornice runs along the top of the facade. A 20th-century half-glazed door with a segmental head is located further along, followed by a third door with four moulded panels and a four-paned overlight. This door is flanked by single, late 18th-century glazing bar bow windows supported on paired wooden brackets. Above this door and the windows is a projecting tiled canopy supported by plain brackets. On the first floor are three three-light casements, which have broken through earlier window openings. The front of the building is also separately described within the listing for 8-9 Market Place.
