Description

Nos 8 and 9 Market Place is a house and shop dating from the 18th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. The building is constructed of brick, partly painted, and features a pantiled roof with a slightly raised brick coped gable on the left side. It has a three-storey, three-bay front, although it was originally only two storeys high. The ground floor contains two 20th-century shop fronts. On the first floor, there is one 18th-century glazing bar sash window and two 20th-century top hung casements. The second floor has three smaller glazing bar sash windows. All of the upper windows are adorned with plain splayed stucco lintels. The rear of the building is described separately under 6 and 8 South Street.
