Description
No. 2 Market Place is a house and shop dating from the early 18th century, with early and mid-19th century and 20th century alterations. The building is constructed of rendered brick with stucco dressings and features a pantiled roof. It has two brick gable stacks and a three-storey, four-bay front. The façade includes a second-floor band and rusticated stucco quoins, as well as a moulded cornice with kneelers at the ends.
On the ground floor, there is an off-centre 20th-century glazed double door, with two large contemporary shop windows to the right, topped by a deep fascia. The first floor has four 19th-century bordered sash windows, while the second floor features two smaller bordered sashes on the right and two plain sashes on the left. All windows have narrow sills and rusticated splayed stucco lintels. This building is included in the listing for its group value.
