Description
No. 53 High Street is a house and shop dating from the mid to late 18th century, with later alterations. The building is constructed of brick that is rendered with lined stucco. The roof is partly covered with old tiles and features a brick chimney at the rear.
The exterior consists of three storeys and has a two-window range with a rear wing. The windows are boxed horned sashes with painted sills, featuring 6/6 panes on the first floor and smaller 3/6 panes above. On the ground floor, there is a fascia and a 20th-century shopfront that includes two canted plate-glazed bay windows flanking a central glazed door with a hexagonal-paned overlight. To the left, there is another 20th-century door that provides access to a side passage, and the building has a plinth. The rear wing includes a chimney and has later extensions. The interior has not been inspected.
