Description
No. 54 High Street is a house that now functions as a shop with an arcade entrance. It dates from the 18th century and has undergone various alterations, including significant work in the 20th century. The building is finished in stucco and features a plain tile roof, with some older tiles visible on the rear pitch of the main range and the wing.
The exterior is two storeys high and consists of three bays, with a gabled rear wing. The left section has boxed eaves and two 20th-century small-pane windows with casements on the first floor. The ground floor has two former shop fronts that have been combined into a single shop, each with a bracketed awning box, a deep fascia, a 20th-century plate glass window, and an entrance on the right. The right bay features a full-width window set under the eaves, consisting of three lights with 16 arched panes, and a full-width arcade entrance on the ground floor.
The interior has not been inspected. Historically, the building may have served as premises for a rope maker.
