Description
No. 44 Teme Street is a house and shop with origins dating back to the 17th century. It was remodeled in the early 19th century and underwent further alterations in the mid-20th century. The building features finely jointed brickwork, with the ground floor stuccoed, a slate roof, and a truncated brick stack on the left side. It stands three storeys high with a dentilled eaves cornice and comprises four bays.
On the first floor, there are four 12-pane sash windows, while the second floor has four 6-pane sash windows. The ground floor is rusticated and includes an entablature adorned with lion masks on four engaged Corinthian columns. This area flanks a 20th-century plate glass shop front that occupies the third and fourth bays, along with a door featuring a transom light in the first bay. The second bay has a recessed 20th-century door, also with a transom light. At the rear, part of the original building is visible, showcasing some timber-framing and a rubble chimney stack.
