Description

The Ship Inn is a public house dating back to the 17th century, with a complete refronting likely in the early 19th century, and further alterations in the late 19th and mid-20th centuries. The building is timber-framed with brick infill, faced with stucco, and has a tiled roof hidden behind a parapet, along with a brick rear stack. It has three framed bays aligned north to south. The west front displays some visible timber framing at the south end, including a collar and tie-beam truss. Two two-storey canted bay windows are present, with four-pane sashes; the left bay window is smaller and has narrower plain side sashes. The right bay has a first floor four-pane sash window. Two entrances flank the left bay window and feature flat canopies supported by shaped brackets; one has a four-panelled door, and the other a six-panelled door. A large archway with a timber lintel has been inserted at the right end of the building. Inside, much of the original timber framing remains.
