Description

This is an early 18th-century house and shop, altered in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. The building is constructed of painted handmade brick, with a hipped roof covered in plain tiles. It is three storeys high, marked by a three-course band at the second floor level and a modillion eaves cornice. The facade features six bays, with windows having gauged flat heads. Four first-floor windows retain their original 12-pane sashes; one of these has been altered. Three second-floor windows are also 12-pane sashes. The remaining windows have been blocked. A 20th-century plate glass shop front occupies the left side of the ground floor. To the right of the shop front is a four-centred archway leading to a vaulted passageway that connected to the former corn exchange. At the rear of the building, some original mullion and transom windows remain.
