Description

This is an early 18th-century house and restaurant, which was refronted in the late 19th century. It is constructed of handmade brick, with the front stuccoed, and has a two-span roof covered in plain tiles and slate, topped by brick end stacks. The house is two storeys and has an attic. The ground floor is characterised by vermiculated rustication. A band at first floor level is enriched with scroll and egg-and-dart mouldings, projecting on moulded corbels. The first floor features pilasters and a full entablature, enriched with hop garlands. There are two bays, with the ground floor windows featuring plate glass and curved inserts in the upper corners. The first floor windows have cornices on moulded corbels, and four-pane sashes. A skylight is located on the left side of the roof slope. The central entrance also features a cornice on corbels, flanked by fluted pilasters, a round-headed archway with scroll relief decoration on the spandrels, raised and fielded panelled jambs and intrados, a 20th-century glazed door, and a segmental fanlight. There are attic lights at the gable ends. A cogged brick course is visible above attic level at the left end.
