Description
No. 20 Bridge Street is a house and shop dating from the 17th century, although it has been much altered and features an early 19th-century frontage. The building is constructed of brick with a stucco render and has a plain tile hipped roof with brick dentilled eaves.
It stands three storeys high with a cellar. The first floor features a wide castellated canted bay window with a combination of 4/4, 6/6, and 4/4 sash windows. Above this, there are two 6/6 horned sashes. On the ground floor, there is a deep full-width fascia below a dentilled cornice. The bay window on the left has a remodelled double-arched plate glass shopfront with fittings for blinds, while on the right, there is a round-arched doorway with a keyed wooden architrave, a plain fanlight, and a 20th-century door. The side wall shows vestigial timber-framing in brick, and there is a square-panelled timber-framed single-storey wing at the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
