Description

A 17th-century house and shop, with 19th and 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of brick, partly painted, with pantiled roofs. One gable has a cement coping with a brick kneeler. A central axial ridge stack is present. The front facade is three bays wide over two storeys, with the right-hand two bays featuring a first-floor brick band and a full dentillated decorative eaves course. A central 20th-century door leads up three steps. To the left is an early 19th-century shop front featuring an off-centre, ½ glazed panelled double folding door in a moulded wooden surround. To the right of the shop front is a ½ canted oriel bay supported on brackets, above a moulded cornice and fascia. A 20th-century top-hung casement is located to the right of the oriel bay. The first floor has similar 20th-century top-hung casements. All openings have segmental brick heads. A single-bay, originally three-storey addition is located to the left, with painted brickwork and an early 19th-century shop front. This features a door on the left and a four-paned window on the right, all within a moulded and panelled wooden frame with three Doric pilasters, a narrow cornice, and brackets. The first floor has an off-centre 20th-century top-hung casement with a segmental head, and the second floor has a blocked opening. Evidence suggests the existing openings were inserted into an earlier facade.
