Description
Numbers 9 and 10 are terraced houses located on Clifton Road in Brighton, built around 1830. They are constructed of stucco with a slate roof and stand three storeys tall. Number 9 features a one-window range and has a single-storey porch set back to the side, with a flat-arched entrance that includes an overlight and a pediment topped by an impressive eagle. Number 10 has a two-window range, with its entrance bay brought forward. It has a flat-arched entrance with a sidelight and overlight, set back under a slightly cambered-arched porch that includes pilasters, a keystone, and a cornice on consoles above. The ground and first floors of Number 10 have a segmental bay with tripartite windows, and there is a first-floor balcony with cast-iron railings. Both houses feature a storey band, and the sashes on the second floor of Number 9 and the first and second floors of Number 10 retain their original design. The eaves are boxed, and the roof is hipped with a stack on the party wall. The interior has not been inspected. There is also a stucco dwarf garden wall with square corniced gate piers, which has been renewed on Number 10.
