Description
Numbers 4, 5, and 6 Montpelier Crescent are a group of terraced houses dating from circa 1855. They are constructed of stucco with slate roofs. The houses are three storeys high with a basement and contain dormers, each with a three-window frontage. They form a single, shallow, convex curve in plan. The ground floor is decorated with chamfered rustication. Broad, deep, flat-arched entrances are located in the outer bays of Numbers 4 and 6, and the left-hand bay of Number 5, each with a moulded architrave, doorcase, overlight, and original double doors of studded design. All windows are flat-arched with moulded stucco architraves. First-floor windows have a pediment on consoles over the central windows, and segmental pediments to the outer windows on Number 5. Numbers 4 and 6 have cornices to the outer windows. A bracketed balcony with cast-iron railings is present on the first floor. A simple entablature above the second-floor windows includes a modillion cornice, topped by a stepped parapet. Dormers are set into the mansarded and hipped roof, and there are stacks to the party walls. The interior has not been inspected. Cast-iron railings with decorative finials flank the steps leading up to the entrances.
