Unidentified Monument, Dulwich Old Burial Ground

The Unidentified Monument in Dulwich Old Burial Ground is an early 19th-century tomb made of stone set on a low brick plinth, designed in the style of Soane. It features a stylobate with three steps and a shallow domed canopy supported by angled corner piers that have acanthus capitals. Beneath the canopy, there is a broad scrolled bracket that resembles an open book. This monument is marked as C on the plan and is located on the southern edge of the site, immediately north of the Flint tomb. The burial ground itself was consecrated in 1616 and is notable for not being located next to any church or chapel. The monuments in this burial ground are part of a group that includes the 18th-century gates, walls, and railings surrounding Dulwich Old Burial Ground.
