Monument To Lieutenant Colonel William Ranken, Dulwich Old Burial Ground

The monument to Lieutenant Colonel William Ranken is located in Dulwich Old Burial Ground and dates from 1831. It is a stone tomb chest with a stucco-faced plinth. The chest features angled corner pilasters that end in shields and is enclosed by railings. The base has an inscription stating "Entrance to vault," and there are rosettes on the corners of the inscription panels. Ranken was a member of the East India Company. The monument is marked H on the burial ground plan and is situated along the south verge, just north of the Willes tomb. This burial ground, consecrated in 1616, is notable for not being adjacent to any church or chapel. The monuments here are part of a group that includes the 18th-century gates, walls, and railings surrounding Dulwich Old Burial Ground.
