Description
The monument to James Thompson is a stone tomb chest located in the Dulwich Old Burial Ground, dated 1788. It features a brick stylobate with three steps and a stone base. The tomb chest itself is made of smooth ashlar and includes vermiculated corner quoins and a moulded lid. There are recessed oval inscription panels on the tomb. It is marked as J on the plan and is situated to the left of the entrance gates, just north of the Shawe tomb. The burial ground, which was consecrated in 1616, is notable for being unusual as it is not located adjacent to any church or chapel.
