Description
The Thompson Monument is a chest tomb located approximately 7 meters south of St Patrick's Church in Bampton. It dates from 1760 and is constructed of ashlar stone. The sides of the tomb feature two incised ellipses set between narrow rectangular incised panels, while the ends display similar octagons between fluted panels. The plain top slab of the tomb records the names of Matthew Thompson, who died in 1760, his wife Elizabeth, who died in 1785, and their son Matthew, who died in 1807.
