Description
The table tomb at the entrance to St Mary's Burial Ground, dating from the later 18th century, is designed in a Neo-Classical style. It is constructed from Coade stone and natural stone. The tomb features a stepped base leading to a plinth, with twist-fluted drum pedestals that support three-quarter columns at each corner. Each of the four sides displays round and oval cartouche panels, one of which contains a draped mourning figure, while the others feature inscriptions. The tomb is adorned with a delicately swagged frieze and a thin moulded cornice. At the top, there is a high cap decorated with a leaf motif, leading to a bold scotia and a crowning block embellished with swags.
