Description
Numbers 230-252 Camberwell New Road are a row of twelve houses built around 1842. They are constructed of brown brick and feature low-pitched, hipped slate roofs with deep eaves soffits. The roofs have paired brackets resting on flat pilaster strips between the houses from Nos 236 to 252. The houses at Nos 230-234 have a stucco cornice and blocking course. All houses are three stories tall with a basement and two bays, except for No. 230, which has only one bay.
There are steps leading to the doors; those at Nos 230-234 have moulded stucco architraves, while those at Nos 236-252 are topped with segmental brick arches. No. 252 features curved steps and railings leading to a stucco Doric porch, where the door is set at an angle on the canted return to County Grove. No. 230 has its entrance in a one-story extension to the right. The sash windows have flat, gauged-brick arches, most of which include glazing bars. There is a stucco band at the first-floor sills and a similar band at the ground floor for Nos 236-252.
The interior has not been inspected. The houses also have cast-iron step and area railings for Nos 230-242 and 246-252. Together, Numbers 230-252 and Nos 2-4 County Grove form a cohesive group.
