Description

This is an early to mid-19th century pair of buildings, numbers 220 and 222, located on the south side of Camberwell New Road. Each building is three storeys high with a basement, and contains two windows. The outer building is slightly set back and forms a narrow entrance bay. The buildings are constructed of stock brick with a recessed panel on the central axis. Decorative features include a stucco frieze, cornice, and blocking course, as well as a first-floor cill band and an impost string above the arcaded ground floor, which itself sits on a continuous band. The windows are sash windows, some with bars, set within stucco surrounds and beneath gauged brick arches that are round on the ground floor. There are six steps leading to a four-panel door, each topped with a mutuled cornice head and a plain fanlight. A cast iron handrail is present at number 222.
