Description

This is an early to mid-19th century pair of buildings on Camberwell New Road, forming part of a group. Each building is three storeys high and has two windows. Number 196 is constructed of stock brick with a stuccoed ground floor, while Number 198 is entirely stuccoed. Both buildings feature a frieze, cornice, and blocking course along the top. Number 196 retains sash windows; those on the upper floors are set within stucco-lined reveals beneath flat, gauged brick arches, while the ground floor windows have a round-headed design, set within recessed surrounds with an impost string. It has a four-panel door with reeded pilasters, a cornice head, and a plain fanlight. Number 198 has undergone alterations to its windows and ground floor openings, and is included in the listing primarily for its visual contribution to the group.
