Description
Numbers 197, 197A and 199, with their attached front garden railings, are two terraced houses dating to the early 19th century, rebuilt in the 20th century. They are constructed of brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a slate mansard roof. Each house has three storeys and two windows. The left-hand unit has a 20th-century shop front, and features round-arched first-floor windows and flat-arched windows above. There are two dormers on each roof. The right-hand unit has round-arched ground-floor openings, with all other openings being flat-arched. All lintels and round arches are formed from gauged bricks. The party walls were rebuilt in the 20th century. A stack is located on the party wall. Number 199 has a six-panel door with fluted quadrant pilasters and a fanlight with vertical bars. All windows are six-over-six sash windows, with the roof dormers featuring three-over-six sashes. The interior was not inspected. The railings to numbers 197 and 197A enclose a shallow front garden. Despite later alterations, the pair forms a group with numbers 185-195 and 201-215 (odd).
