Description

This is an early to mid-19th century terrace comprised of three buildings at numbers 174, 176, and 178 Camberwell New Road. The terrace is two storeys tall with attics and a basement, and originally had two, three, and two windows respectively. The buildings are constructed of stock brick with a stucco frieze, cornice, and blocking course. The roofs are slated mansard roofs, with one dormer on the first and last buildings, and two dormers on the central building. Number 176 has lost its original frieze and cornice. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars, set in stucco reveals under gauged brick arches. Ground-floor windows have round-headed tops set within round-arched recesses featuring stuccoed impost strings. Seven steps, featuring patterned cast iron handrails, lead to the six-panel doors, complete with reeded pilasters, cornices above the doors and fanlights. The door of number 174 has a patterned fanlight. The buildings are included on the list for their group value.
