Numbers 11-14 And Attached Hand Rails And Area Railings

This is a terrace of four houses built around 1817 to 1822, with later additions around 1868 to numbers 11 and 12. The houses are located on Holly Grove in Southwark.

Numbers 11 and 12 are constructed of yellow brick with low-pitched slate roofs and dormers. Numbers 13 and 14 are of amber brick (number 14 is painted) and have low-pitched, hipped slate roofs, with the outer entrance bays separately hipped. Numbers 11 and 12 are two storeys, with an attic and basement, arranged as two bays each. Number 11 features a stucco prostyle porch with square columns, and a canted bay window on both floors to the right bay. It has sash windows with flat, gauged-brick arches. Number 12 has a recessed door behind a plain segmental-arched opening, with a ground-floor window in a round-arched recess resting on a basement plinth, and sash windows with cambered, gauged-brick arches. Steps with cast-iron railings lead to the doors. Numbers 13 and 14 are two storeys and a basement, with two bays each. Number 13 has steps with cast-iron railings leading to a segmental-arched entrance, which is recessed with fluted pilaster jambs and blank, round-arched flanking niches. It also has a ground-floor window in a round-arched recess resting on a basement plinth. Number 14 features a stucco prostyle porch with square columns and an added canted bay window to the ground floor and basement, and sash windows with glazing bars beneath cambered, gauged-brick arches. The interiors were not inspected. Attached cast-iron area railings are also part of the building. The terrace is included for group value with numbers 5 to 24.
