Description

A pair of semi-detached houses dating from approximately 1816 to 1822, located in Southwark. Number 15 is constructed of amber brick, while Number 16 is stuccoed. Both have low-pitched, hipped slate roofs. The houses are two storeys high with a basement. Each has two bays. Number 16 features steps with cast-iron handrails leading to the entrance in the outer bay, which has a separately hipped roof. A screen composed of two Tuscan columns fronts a curved recess, where the door is flanked by two round-arched, blank niches. The door itself has margin lights and an oblong fanlight. Number 15 has a bowed front, with Tuscan columns supporting a curved portico above which is a bay window featuring sash windows with margin lights between panelled pilasters. A frieze and dentil cornice top the facade, and the door is similar to that of Number 16. Cambered, gauged-brick arches frame the sash windows, which are fitted with glazing bars. The ground floor windows are set within round-arched recesses resting on a basement plinth. The interior has not been inspected. Attached cast-iron garden railings are present at Number 15. Numbers 5 to 24 (inclusive) form a group value context.
