Description

Garden Cottage is an early 19th-century cottage that features a timber frame and is weatherboarded, with a roof made of handmade red clay pantiles. It has a very small rectangular plan, with an external chimney stack at the south end and a long lean-to extension to the north, facing east. The cottage is two storeys high and has a six-panel door located inside a 20th-century glazed porch. There is one 19th-century window with six lights and one 20th-century fixed window, but no first-floor windows on the east side. The character of this cottage is primarily defined by its wall cladding, roofing material, and its miniature scale. It is the least altered among several cottages that once shared this character on the edge of Epping Forest.
