Description

The Gardener's Arms Public House is a cottage that dates from the late 17th century and has been converted into a public house. It was extended in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features a timber frame with weatherboarding and is topped with handmade red clay tiles. It consists of three bays arranged approximately northeast to southwest, with the main entrance facing northwest and a chimney stack located between the middle and northeast bays. There is an external chimney stack on the rear part of the southwest gable end, which dates from the 19th century. A parallel range extends to the rear, projecting at the southwest end, also from the 19th century. Additionally, there is a flat-roofed single-storey extension at the front, projecting at the southwest end, built around 1900.

The original cottage's middle and southwest bays form the main part of the public house, which has had its floor removed entirely, along with extensions to the front and rear. The northeast bay serves as a house, with further extensions to the rear. The building is two storeys high. The northwest elevation of the house features one plain door and one 20th-century casement window on each floor. The northwest elevation of the public house includes a six-panel door, with the top panels being glazed, two 20th-century leaded casement windows, and a bow of five leaded casement windows, also from the 20th century, all sheltered under a tiled canopy supported by posts. Some timber framing is exposed internally.
