Description

This is a mid-19th century terrace of three cottages located on York Hill in Loughton. The cottages are timber-framed and faced with red brick in a Flemish bond pattern; some areas are plastered and weatherboarded. The roof is hidden behind a parapet. The cottages are aligned approximately northwest-southeast and face southwest. There are chimney stacks at each end of the terrace and in both party walls.

Originally, each cottage had a simple boarded door protected by a bracketed hood with a roof of handmade red clay tiles. Each floor featured a double-hung sash window with 12 panes, set within a flat brick arch, and a recessed rectangular panel was incorporated into the parapet. As of May 1983, the original hoods remained in place. The original doors had been replaced with 20th-century doors of varying designs. Number 113 has a porch constructed under the bracketed hood and a mock-Regency bow window replacing its original ground floor sash window; the other windows were either unchanged or replaced with 20th-century equivalents. The cottages are considered to form a group with numbers 107, 109, and 117.
