Description

Milestone located adjacent to the north west corner of number 24 on St. James Street in Castle Hedingham. This milestone dates from the 18th or 19th century and is made of stone. It features a raised triangle inscribed with "London 49." The lower front triangle displays "Braintree 9" and "Sudbury 7," with "Castle Hedingham" noted beneath each panel. One rear panel indicates "49 from London 7 to Sudbury," while the other panel is plain. This milestone is part of a set of four similar milestones along the Castle Hedingham to Bulmer Road.
