Description
Nos. 14 and 16 on St. James Street in Castle Hedingham are two dwellings that were originally a single house, dating from the 16th century or earlier. The building is timber framed and has a rough rendered exterior. It features a red plain tile roof, which includes a gabled crosswing and a narrow flat-roofed extension at the front of the main range. There is a central red brick chimney stack with its original base.
The first floor has a symmetrical arrangement of windows, with one window on the ground floor that consists of 18th-century small paned vertically sliding sashes. There are two doors: one to the left is vertically boarded, while the one to the right is a six-panelled door with glazed upper panels. To the left, there is a flat-headed passageway opening.
