Description

25 and 27 Telegraph Street are two cottages that were originally one house, built in the mid-18th century with some alterations in the 19th century. The exterior features squared, coursed lias stone with brick at the rear and a slate roof with brick end stacks. The building is two storeys plus an attic and has a three-window range with a two-unit plan.

The entrance on the left side is a 19th-century four-panelled door with a flat hood supported by consoles, while the right side has a part-glazed panelled door with a similar hood. On the right side, there is a 19th-century three-light casement window with a wooden lintel on both the ground and first floors. On the left side, there is a 20th-century three-light casement window with a wooden lintel, and a 19th-century two-light casement window is located in the centre of the first floor. The building also features two gabled dormers and a 20th-century brick extension at the rear.

Inside No. 27, the right cottage has chamfered spine beams on the ground and first floors, along with an open fireplace that has a chamfered bressumer. The roof structure includes queen struts with collars and original purlins. The cottages are included in the listing for their group value.
