Description

A shop and offices, originally houses, dating to the early 19th century. The building is constructed of brick in Flemish bond, with a dentilled eaves cornice. Number 36 has a rebuilt ground floor, while numbers 38 and 40 have an imitation stone render to the ground floor. The roof is slate, with brick ridges and end stacks. The building is two storeys plus an attic, with a four-window range. It was originally designed with a four-unit plan.

Number 36, on the right-hand side, features a 20th-century glazed door and a 20th-century bow window to the right. Number 38, in the centre, has a 20th-century glazed door and a 20th-century bay to the right. Number 40, on the left-hand side, has a 20th-century panelled door with a round head and a 19th-century canted bay with a 12-pane sash window to the front. Double doors in the 20th century are located between the doors of numbers 38 and 40. A 20th-century hood extends over the doors and windows of numbers 38 and 40.

On the first floor, a 16-pane sash window with a brick flat arch and ashlar keyblock is located to the left and centre left. A 19th-century canted bay window with a 16-pane sash is positioned to the centre right. A 19th-century sash window, with a brick flat arch and ashlar keyblock, is on the right-hand side. There are three 20th-century dormers in the roof. The interiors have not been inspected.
