Description
Number 3 is a house that has been converted into a shop and offices, dating from the early 19th century. It is built from red brick in Flemish bond with stucco cement trim and has a slate roof.
The building has three storeys and one dormer, featuring a one-window range. The ground floor has a late 19th-century shop front, which includes a dentil cornice and a grille with a floral pattern, both supported by fluted console brackets at the ends. A shallow rectangular bay extends through the first and second floors, with all windows having flat arches. The first floor has tripartite windows, with the centre light separated from the sides by narrow brick piers, which are also found at the corners of the bay. There are string courses between the first and second floors of the bay only. The second floor has a single window with sidelights, and a sill band that applies only to the bay. The lintel of the second-floor window requires repair.
An entablature with a projecting cornice is topped by a parapet that runs across the entire facade. The flat-arched dormer is also present. The first-floor windows have original design sashes: 9 x 9 sashes for the centre light and 3 x 3 sashes for the sides. The second floor features 6 x 6 sashes in the centre and 4 x 4 sashes on the sides. There are stacks at the party walls.
The interior has not been inspected. Number 3 is part of a group with Numbers 1, 4, 5, and 6 Bartholomews.
