Description

No. 4 Bartholomews is a house that has been converted into a shop and offices, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond with stucco dressings and features a slate turnerised roof. The building has three storeys and two dormer windows, with a four-window range. The flat-arched entrance is located to the right of the party wall and, along with the rest of the ground floor, has been updated in the late 20th century.

The section above the entrance is slightly recessed compared to the rest of the facade, and the narrow windows in this area are blocked. All windows are flat arched; the first-floor windows in the main part of the elevation have eared architraves, while each second-floor window features an architrave and an entablature. The upper floor windows are original 6 x 6 sash designs, and the two flat-arched dormers have original 3 x 3 sashes.

A moulded, rectangular stucco sign panel, which reads "Estate Office," stretches nearly the full length between the first- and second-floor windows. The facade is topped with an entablature that has a projecting cornice, and there is a parapet above. The building has stacks on the party walls. The property forms a group with Nos. 1, 3, 5, and 6 Bartholomews. The interior has not been inspected.
