Description
Manor house and attached wall, coach house and gatepiers. The manor house dates to the early to mid-18th century. It is constructed of ironstone ashlar with rusticated quoins, a moulded eaves cornice, and stone-coped gables. The mansard roof is covered in old slates with a brick ridge and brick end stacks. The house is two storeys plus an attic, with a six-window front, the central two-window range projecting forward and topped with a pediment. The building has an L-shaped plan. A 20th-century door with a panelled surround and moulded head is on the left side. To the right of the projecting range is a large four-panelled door with a pilaster surround and bracketed hood. There are several 19th-century two-pane sash windows, some with moulded keystones and hood moulds. Six first-floor windows have 12-pane sashes, moulded sills, and keystones with moulded hoods. A six-pane window with a Tudor arched head is in the centre of the pediment. Four 20th-century dormers are present. To the left is a stone castellated wall, likely from the 19th century, with double doors in the centre and a single door to the right. Both doors have segmental heads with moulded keystones and buttresses. A large, two-storey rendered range extends to the rear of the building. Attached to the rear left is a late 18th and early 19th century wall, approximately 2.5 metres high and extending north for roughly 50 metres. It is built of brick and squared, coursed lias stone, with brick buttresses and a stone-coped top. At a right angle to the wall is a late 18th century coach house of brick in Flemish bond, with a nogged eaves cornice and stone-coped gables. It has a 20th-century tile roof and double plank doors with original hinges in a segmental arched head with a stone keyblock. The wall extends approximately 17 metres to the east and features two 18th-century rusticated stone gatepiers with moulded cornices, linked by a plank door. The interior was not inspected. Group value is demonstrated through the combination of elements.
