Description
2 and 4 Chapel Terrace is a pair of cottages built in the mid-18th century, with later alterations and an extension at the rear. The cottages are constructed from coursed sandstone rubble and feature a pantile roof with rebuilt brick stacks. They have a two-cell direct entry plan and a two-storey, six-bay front.
The central right side has a 20th-century four-panel door with a timber lintel. The original entrance on the centre left is now blocked by a 20th-century window, with a new entrance located at the rear. There are four 20th-century casement windows with glazing bars on the left side and one on the right, with four similar windows on the first floor. All windows have timber lintels and sills. The left gable has a coped top and a shaped kneeler. There are end and centre stacks.
Inside No 4 (the left cottage), there are chamfered beams on the ground floor. A plank and muntin wall encloses the stairs along the back wall of the left room, beneath which is a panelled cupboard door with a butterfly hinge. There is also a hearth beam.
