Description
Beckus is a house located on Main Street in Ebberston, dating from the late 18th century, with extensions and remodels from the early 19th century. The building is constructed from dressed limestone with sandstone quoins, while the rear is made of limestone rubble. It features a pantile roof and rebuilt brick stacks. Originally designed with a central stairhall plan and one room deep, a full-height rear range was added to create a double depth plan. The house is two stories tall with a symmetrical three-window front. The central entrance has a six-panel door with a divided overlight above. Throughout the building, there are sixteen-pane sash windows with stone sills and flat arches above all openings. The eaves are adorned with a paired modillion course, and the gables are coped with shaped kneelers. There are end stacks on both ranges of the double span roof.
Inside, there is a straight staircase featuring a shaped handrail that is ramped up, along with turned balusters and a newel post. The ground floor front rooms have reeded door and window architraves, and the room to the right retains window panelling and shutters.
