Description

A mid-18th century estate cottage, later remodelled in the mid-19th century and restored in 1992, now serving as a house. The building is constructed of coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings and features steep-pitched pantile roofs, exhibiting a Tudor Revival style. It is a single-storey building with garrets and has a two-window front. The layout is L-shaped. A coped gable on the right-hand side displays an external stack with a coped square ashlar flue set diagonally. Above the gable, at garret level, is a blank shield flanked by single-light windows, all under a common label mould. The left wing incorporates a three-light window with stone mullions. The left gable mirrors the front gable with an identical stack and window arrangement, all featuring chamfered stone surrounds. The right return has irregular window placement. A lower, rear range to the right includes a single door and window, with a rebuilt gable stack. To the left of the rear range is a door flanked by single windows, with a single window above. Originally an estate cottage providing accommodation for workers on the Belton estate for the Brownlow family of Belton House.
