Description

A pair of estate cottages, now houses, dating from the mid-19th century, with later 20th-century alterations and a matching rear addition. The cottages were built for workers on the Belton estate by the Brownlow family of Belton House. They are constructed of brick and coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings, and have steep-pitched slate roofs. A central rectangular stone ridge stack has chamfered coping, and a similar smaller rear wall stack. The cottages are in a Tudor Revival style, featuring a plinth, quoins, coped gables with kneelers and finials. The two storeys are arranged over 4 bays. The windows have been reglazed in the late 20th century and are set within chamfered stone surrounds with mullions. The centre features two gables, each with a two-light window. Below, to the left is a square stone bay window with a hipped roof and a three-light window. To the right is a four-light window, with a single light window on either side. The right gable has a two-light window with a slit breather above it, and a four-centred arched plank door with ornamental hinges under a rustic-style gabled hood. The left gable has a two-light window on each floor.
