Description

This is an estate cottage, later converted into a house, with an attached boundary wall, dating to 1852. It has undergone later alterations in the late 20th century. The cottage is constructed of squared stone with ashlar dressings and a renewed pantile roof. It features square, corbelled ashlar ridge stacks and two larger gable stacks. The style is Tudor Revival. Architectural details include a plinth, quoins, coped gables, kneelers with ball finials. The building is single storey with attic space, comprising four bays. The windows have been reglazed. A large gabled through-eaves dormer is situated on the right side, featuring two single-light windows beneath a square panel displaying the Brownlow monogram and datestone, and a shared drip mould. Below this is a chamfered stone doorcase with a panelled door, alongside a 3-light mullioned window with a cornice. A square stone bay window with a lean-to roof and a 3-light stone mullioned window are on the left, with a 20th-century raking dormer positioned above the bay window. Further to the left is a single-light window with a cornice. The attached boundary wall consists of two sections with canted corners and slab coping. Originally an estate cottage providing accommodation for workers on the Belton estate by the Brownlow family of Belton House.
