Description

BELTON & MANTHORPE SK9239 WASHDYKE LANE, Belton 1315-0/8/68 (North side) Nos.5 AND 6 GV II

Pair of estate cottages, now a house. Dated 1852, with late C20 alterations. Coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings and steep pitched slate roof. Central cruciform ashlar ridge stack with pediments. Jacobean Revival style. Quoins, moulded coped gables with kneelers and ball finials. 2 storeys; 4 window range. Windows are C20 2-light glazing bar casements with projecting stone surrounds. To right, a porch with shaped coped gable and ball finial, and C20 half-glazed door in a Tudor arched opening. A single round arched lancet in each side. To right, one casement, and to left, 2 casements. Beyond, a blocked doorway with stone surround and hood mould. To its left, another casement. Gables have single light casements on the first floor. An estate cottage provided for workers on the Belton estate by the Brownlow family of Belton House.
