Description
5 and 6 Washdyke Lane is a pair of estate cottages, now functioning as a house, dated 1852, with some alterations from the late 20th century. The building is constructed from coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings and features a steeply pitched slate roof. It showcases a central cruciform ashlar ridge stack with pediments and is designed in the Jacobean Revival style. The structure includes quoins and moulded coped gables with kneelers and ball finials. It stands two storeys high and has a four-window range. The windows are 20th-century two-light glazing bar casements with projecting stone surrounds.
To the right, there is a porch with a shaped coped gable and ball finial, featuring a 20th-century half-glazed door set in a Tudor arched opening. Each side of the porch has a single round arched lancet. To the right of the porch is one casement window, while to the left are two casement windows. Beyond this, there is a blocked doorway with a stone surround and hood mould, with another casement window to its left. The gables have single light casements on the first floor. This estate cottage was built to accommodate workers on the Belton estate by the Brownlow family of Belton House.
