Description
Sweetbriar Cottage is an estate cottage, now functioning as a house, dated 1850, with some alterations made in the late 20th century. The building is constructed from coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings and features a steeply pitched slate roof. It has two ashlar gable stacks with square coped double flues and is designed in the Jacobean Revival style. The gables are coped and include kneelers. The cottage is a single storey plus attics and has a two-window range. The windows are 20th-century two-light glazing bar casements. There are two through-eaves dormers that also have coped gables, kneelers, and ball finials. The central door has been renewed and is flanked by single windows with flat arches. Above the door is a datestone. This cottage was originally built as housing for workers on the Belton estate by the Brownlow family of Belton House.
