Description
Vine Cottage is an estate cottage, now functioning as a house, that dates back to 1848 and has undergone some alterations in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of coursed squared stone with an ashlar front and dressings, topped with a glazed pantile roof. It features two ashlar gable stacks with square coped double flues and is designed in the Jacobean Revival style. The cottage has a plinth and coped gables with kneelers, and it is a single storey plus attics with a two-window range. The windows are two-light glazing bar casements with wooden mullions. There are two large through-eaves dormers with coped gables and finials. The central board door is flanked by single larger windows and has a datestone above it. All openings have projecting stone surrounds. At the rear, there is a single storey outbuilding with a pantile roof. This cottage was originally provided for workers on the Belton estate by the Brownlow family of Belton House.
