Description

A pair of estate cottages, now houses, dating to 1822, with alterations in the late 19th century and 20th century. The cottages are constructed of red brick, originally colourwashed, with ashlar dressings and slate roofs featuring bargeboards. A rendered coped brick ridge stack sits on an ashlar base. The two-storey, three-window range features 19th and 20th-century casement windows. A central blank space is flanked on the first floor by two-light windows and on the ground floor by three-light windows. Ground floor windows have concrete lintels. Set back hipped porches with round-arched doorways and weatherstripped doors are located on either side of the cottages. The cottages were built to provide housing for workers on the Belton estate by the Brownlow family of Belton House.
