Description

Estate Cottages Nos. 123 and 124 are a pair of semi-detached cottages built in the mid-19th century. They are constructed from coursed ironstone rubble with an ashlar plinth, quoins, and dressings. The cottages feature a black glazed pantile roof with raised stone coped gables that have shaped kneelers, and tall paired octagonal brick gable stacks with moulded tops. The buildings are single storey with a garret and have a four-bay front. The central entrance consists of planked doors with ribbed stiles and timber lintels. These doorways are linked by cornice moulding, which also frames a shield bearing the Welby Arms above the doors. On either side of the doors, there are single three-light chamfered mullioned windows with cornices. The garret lights are adorned with fine cast iron lattice casements.
